Dalhousie Biochemistry Student Society (DBSS)

The Dalhousie Biochemistry Student Society (DBSS) is a student led organization dedicated to representing and supporting undergraduate and graduate students within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University. Our society aims to foster a welcoming and inclusive community for students studying biochemistry, molecular biology, or related disciplines, as well as anyone with an interest in the field or our society. Beyond serving as an academic society, the DBSS works to create a sense of belonging by encouraging connections and friendships throughout students' university experience. Through planning and hosting a variety of events such as board game nights, gingerbread decorating competitions, and our year-end gala, we aim to create a supportive environment that brings like-minded students together. These events help students build relationships with peers who share similar interests while providing opportunities to connect socially outside of academics. By fostering these connections, we hope to support student well-being and create a network of students who can support one another both personally and academically. Students can become involved in the society in several ways, including running for executive positions or participating as general members. As one of our key goals is to build connections among biochemistry students, we encourage all students interested in contributing to our society to attend meetings and events or reach out through our email or Instagram. We believe student input is invaluable to improving our student centered society. Overall, the DBSS is important because it creates meaningful connections between students while supporting both personal and academic growth. University can often feel overwhelming, particularly within demanding science programs, and our society aims to provide students with a strong support network and sense of community throughout their studies. By promoting connection and engagement within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the DBSS contributes positively to the broader Dalhousie community.
