Dalhousie Bladder Cancer Awareness Society

The Dalhousie Bladder Cancer Awareness Society, associated with Bladder Cancer Canada, aims to spread awareness about bladder cancer to both the Dalhousie student community and the greater Halifax Regional Municipality. Our goal is to help students and community members better understand bladder cancer while also supporting fundraising efforts for research and patient support programs. Student members play an active role in organizing and participating in events such as awareness campaigns and fundraising initiatives, all relating to bladder cancer. Through the society, students have opportunities to build their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while making a positive impact in the community. Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers in Canada, but it is often overlooked and not talked about. Many people living with bladder cancer may look completely healthy, especially on the day-to-day with their ostomy bags. Because these struggles are not always visible, patients can often feel isolated and awareness of the disease remains low. Our society hopes to create more open conversations about bladder cancer by promoting understanding and empathy to support those affected by the disease. We believe our goals are important and bring a greater degree of health awareness to the Dalhousie campus.
