Engineering
The Dalhousie Engineering Graduate Society (DEGS) serves as the representative society for graduate students within the Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University. Its overarching goal is to coordinate, promote, and support the academic, social, and recreational activities of engineering graduate students. DEGS helps foster a strong graduate student community by creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, and engagement among students across different engineering disciplines. The society also acts as a voice for graduate students within the broader Dalhousie student community and works to enhance the overall graduate student experience. DEGS plays an important role in building a sense of community and belonging for engineering graduate students at Dalhousie. Through social events, networking opportunities, student initiatives, and community-oriented activities, the society encourages graduate students to become actively involved in campus life outside of their academic responsibilities. All graduate students registered full- or part-time in the Faculty of Engineering are members of the society while they are enrolled and paying student fees. Members are entitled to participate in society elections, vote on society matters, and hold elected or appointed leadership positions within the organization. The society is important because graduate students often face unique academic and personal challenges, including research pressures, isolation, and balancing professional development with their studies. DEGS helps address these challenges by creating opportunities for peer support, professional interaction, and student representation. By fostering engagement and advocating for graduate student interests, DEGS contributes to a more connected, supportive, and vibrant graduate student community within the Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University.
