Dalhousie Film Society

Every year, the Dalhousie Film Society brings together aspiring creatives who have a passion for filmmaking. We accept students of any year, interests, and experience levels, and then split them off into groups based on the types of movies they'd like to make. The filmmaking process takes lots of time, effort, and collaboration, so we do our best as a society to help each of the groups as much as possible by providing equipment and guidance, while still giving them full creative control over their work. Starting out with 7 members in 2023, the Dalhousie Film Society has now grown to 100+ members and produced a total of 37 short films. Making a film is difficult, especially for students that have to balance course load with extra-curricular activities. So, once the films are finished, we make sure to celebrate these students work through an end of semester premiere. At the Dalhousie Film Society Premiere, we give students the opportunity to display their work in front of a live audience, take pictures on a red carpet, answer live audience questions, and live like Hollywood stars for a night. They work extremely hard to bring these short films together, and we're proud to give them the opportunity to show off their hard work. Afterwards, we upload their short films to YouTube and submit them to film festivals, where they can be seen by friends, family and people around the world.
