Dalhousie King's German Society (DKGS)

Culture and Religion

The Dalhousie King's German Society's (DKGS) main purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to explore German language, culture, and experiences through fun and interactive events. DKGS works closely with Dalhousie's German language department to provide German students with more resources, experiences, and networking opportunities that expand on their classes/program. Members are able to attend events such as Kaffeeklatsch study sessions, German board game nights, and Filmabend movie nights to interact with other German students and practice the language. The Dalhousie King's German Society is an exceptional society in that it works very closely with professors in the German department to bring classroom lessons to life. German students get the opportunity to connect with German professors and upper-year students through social events to create a tight-knit, immersive community within the German department. This not only contributes to student success in German classes, but also encourages students to continue German as a part of their degree. This is a critical attribute in keeping the very small German department alive.
