Medicine
The Dalhousie Medical Students’ Society (DMSS) represents and supports medical students across Dalhousie Medicine, including students at the Halifax and DMNB campuses. The overarching purpose of the DMSS is to advocate for student interests, foster community within the medical school, and help ensure that students have meaningful opportunities to participate in academic, social, wellness, equity, and professional development initiatives. The society serves as an organized voice for medical students and works to strengthen communication between students, faculty, administration, and external partners. The DMSS plays an important role in the Dalhousie student community by creating opportunities for engagement, collaboration, and support among medical students. Student members are involved through elected executive roles, class representatives, interest groups, event planning, advocacy initiatives, wellness programming, communications, and participation in society-led activities. Through these efforts, DMSS helps build a sense of connection and belonging within a demanding academic environment while also promoting student leadership and service. The society is important because medical students benefit from having a structured organization that represents their needs, supports their well-being, and contributes to a positive learning environment. By organizing events, communicating student concerns, supporting student-led initiatives, and advocating for improvements to the medical student experience, DMSS helps ensure that students are not only academically supported but also connected to a broader community throughout their medical training.
