Medicine
The Dalhousie Medicine Point-of-Care Ultrasound (DM PoCUS) Club is a student-led organization dedicated to advancing point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) education and accessibility for medical learners. Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality, and practical ultrasound learning opportunities through hands-on workshops, peer-led teaching, simulation sessions, educational media, and self-directed learning resources. The club plays an important role within the Dalhousie medical student community by supporting the integration of PoCUS into undergraduate medical education and encouraging early clinical skill development. Over the past year, the club has secured approximately $100,000 worth of ultrasound equipment through institutional partnerships and donor support, substantially expanding student access to ultrasound training opportunities. This includes multiple cart-based ultrasound systems and two Butterfly portable ultrasound probes that are available through the club’s lending library to support independent practice and longitudinal skill development outside formal curriculum hours. Student members are actively involved in organizing workshops, peer teaching initiatives, simulation-based learning sessions, mentorship activities, and interdisciplinary educational events throughout the academic year. The club also promotes free open-access medical education principles by developing and sharing educational materials designed for novice ultrasound learners. Through these initiatives, the DM PoCUS Club continues to expand access to practical ultrasound education while fostering collaboration, innovation, and early clinical competency development among medical trainees at Dalhousie University.
