Dalhousie Oceanography Undergraduate Society (DOUGS)

Science

The Ocean Science Society at Dalhousie University serves as a unifying platform for students across all Faculty of Science departments who share an interest in oceanography. Our goal is to foster a collaborative and supportive environment where students can connect over their passion for the ocean sciences. By organizing peer-led study sessions, we help students succeed academically while also promoting a sense of community and mutual support. In addition, we provide opportunities to explore new developments in ocean research through professional panels, workshops, and student-led discussions. Beyond academics, the Society plays an active role in the Dalhousie student community by hosting engaging ocean-themed events, outreach initiatives, and networking opportunities with professionals in the field. These activities encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and help students build both social and professional connections. Our society is important because it not only enhances academic success but also inspires leadership, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of the critical role the oceans play in global systems.
