Health and Wellness
The Dalhousie Pain to Power Society aims to create inclusive, low-impact social events that bring people together through community, creativity, and shared connection. While the society is especially focused on supporting people living with persistent pain, events are open to everyone, including Dalhousie students and members of the broader community. Persistent pain can often be isolating, and social inclusion can play an important role in helping people feel supported, connected, and more engaged in their daily lives. The society’s goal is to create welcoming and accessible spaces where people can participate at their own pace, reduce feelings of isolation, and build meaningful social connections. The society will host biweekly events on Dalhousie’s campus, such as art classes, book clubs, and other accessible social activities. These events are designed to be enjoyable for a wide variety of people while remaining mindful of the needs of individuals who may experience pain, fatigue, or barriers to participation. Information about upcoming events, including how to reserve a spot, will be shared through Instagram, flyers, and a weekly mailing list. Student members play an important role in the society by helping organize, fundraise for, and run these events. The executive team will coordinate volunteering, event planning, and fundraising, while general members will be encouraged to attend events, help with setup, support fundraising efforts, and assist with event coordination. The society is important because it promotes volunteering, social inclusion, and community support for a population that may benefit greatly from accessible opportunities to connect with others. The QEII pain clinic has also expressed support for the society and has indicated that they may share information about Pain to Power with patients, recognizing the potential benefits of social support for people dealing with persistent pain.
