Law
Our purpose is to advocate for justice for incarcerated people by: • Supporting local organizations which provide services to incarcerated people and advocate for the rights of incarcerated people. This includes the John Howard Society, Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia, Coverdale, Books beyond Bars, and more. We hope to promote these organizations and collaborate with them on ways to support incarcerated individuals and advocate for their rights. • Providing educational programming about the realities of incarceration to the Dalhousie community and facilitate thoughtful dialogue within the community. The rights of incarcerated individuals are often overlooked. Our society’s hope is that we can bring light to the issues faced by incarcerated individuals and highlight the rights that they are entitled to. • Connecting law students with initiatives where they can use their skills to serve incarcerated people. Our hope is to connect law students with legal professionals throughout the country and encourage them to work in advocacy-related fields within law. We also hope to encourage community involvement through volunteer work and internship with social justice non-profits.
