Culture and Religion
The Dalhousie South Asian Society aims to create a welcoming and inclusive space for students from South Asian communities. We represent the 8 countries in South Asia including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and Maldives. We bring everyone together through our events and collaborations and promote cultural engagement across Dal campus! The past year we collaborated with the International Centre, Dal Multifaith Society, Dal Med Sci Society, Dal food services/meal hall, etc. to create a stronger sense of belonging and increase intercultural engagement. Our events and initiatives are open to all students, not just South Asian communities. Our goal is to build a strong sense of community, where students can share experiences, express themselves, and build lasting friendships! We are proud to have also won an Impact Award for the 2025-26 year for the most culturally impactful society at Dalhousie. Student members in our soceity are involved in planning and participating in events and executing initiatives throughout the year. The previous year we were a team of 18 students. Our society has multiple executive position for students to be involved in, some of which include co-presidents, vice president, treasurer, event head, event planners, members at large, social media reps, etc. We love collaborating with other Dal societies and making more connections. We believe our society provides students with a sense of belonging, community, and provides cultural representation on campus. We strive to create a safe space for students to celebrate their culture and traditions while also connecting with people from different backgrounds. Beyond that we also support student leadership and engagement by helping them be more involved throughout their university experience. We want to create a safe, inclusive and diverse campus environment.
