Medicine
We are Dalhousie Students Supporting Sick Children (DSSSC), a non-profit, student-run society at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are a group of passionate students united by a shared goal: supporting sick and underprivileged children and their families in the Maritimes. We are proud supporters of the IWK Foundation, Make-A-Wish Canada, and Ronald McDonald House Maritimes. Together, we have already supported hundreds of children and families through our fundraising and outreach efforts. Since our founding in 2018, DSSSC has raised over $11,500 in support of children receiving pediatric care at the IWK Health Centre. In addition to our fundraising efforts, we host a range of on-campus events that engage students in meaningful and accessible ways. These include bake sales, bracelet and finger-puppet-making initiatives, and collaborative events with other student societies, all aimed at fostering community engagement and supporting children and families in need. Beyond fundraising, DSSSC has expanded its impact by developing a structured DSSSC Impact Initiative that connects students with meaningful opportunities across the HRM. By actively sourcing and sharing volunteer initiatives, we bring opportunities directly to students, making it easier for them to get involved and create a tangible impact in their communities. We are seeking and offering opportunities with hospital-based programs, community initiatives, shelters, and child-focused organizations, while also contributing to outreach efforts during times of heightened community need. By creating a centralized network for involvement, we aim to make giving back more accessible, consistent, and impactful. As we continue to grow, our goal is not only to raise funds but to empower students to become active changemakers and build a compassionate community dedicated to supporting children and families.
