Medicine
The Dalhousie Undergraduate Neuroscience Society (UNS) is a student-led group that aims to support and connect Dalhousie students who are interested in neuroscience, regardless of their program or year of study. The society's main goal is to create an inclusive academic and social community where students can explore their interest in neuroscience outside of the classroom. Through academic support, networking opportunities, social events, and community engagement, UNS works to make the undergraduate experience more engaging and supportive. The society also helps connect students with faculty members, research opportunities, departmental initiatives, and potential career paths related to neuroscience. Within the Dalhousie student community, UNS plays an important role in helping students build connections with one another and feel more involved in the neuroscience community. The society organizes a variety of events throughout the year, including study sessions, guest speaker events, workshops, networking opportunities, and social activities for students interested in Neuroscience. Members are encouraged to get involved by helping organize events, volunteering, participating in fundraising initiatives, and contributing ideas about how to better support students in the program. By creating opportunities for students to meet others with similar interests, the society helps foster a strong sense of community and support within what can often be a demanding program. UNS is also committed to giving back to the broader community by supporting a selected charity each year through fundraising and awareness campaigns. This focus on community involvement gives students the opportunity to use their interest in neuroscience to support meaningful causes while developing skills in leadership, teamwork, and advocacy. Overall, the society is important because it strengthens both the academic and social experiences of students at Dalhousie while encouraging them to become active and engaged members of both the university community and the wider field of neuroscience.
