The Dalhousie Undergraduate Physics Society (DUPS) aims to support and represent the physics undergraduate students through academic and social events. DUPS acts as a communication avenue between faculty, grad student and undergraduate students. We host advising events, department town halls and provide course information and resources on our website and social media. We are the main organizers of the year end departmental gala, held for all students and faculty, and host intensive fundraisers throughout the year to make it accessible. Our monthly event “Physics Phrydays” create a space for our hardworking undergraduates to let loose and socialize in a non academic settings. We set up structured fun such as trivia, Mario-Kart tournaments, karaoke and more. DUPS is proud of our budding intramural sports teams that promote positivity and sportsmanship for all levels of athleticism. Noteable sports played this year include dodgeball, softball, soccer and inner tube waterpolo! DUPS very dedicated to EDIA. Our two student EDIA representatives work with our faculty EDIA committee to support and represent underrepresented students specifically using the DEAP tool designed in our very own department. Recently DUPS has also started an EDI article club in collaboration with Saint Mary’s Undergraduate Physics Society where we read articles addressing equality gaps and colonial ideas within the physics world and have productive discussions.
