The Dalhousie Urban Garden Society (DUGS) is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting sustainable urban living through hands-on gardening and community initiatives. We give students opportunities to learn about local food security, soil health, and sustainable growing practices while gaining practical experience in maintaining and improving campus green spaces. DUGS also helps build connections within and beyond the Dalhousie community by bringing together students, neighbours, and local gardening enthusiasts. Members are involved in planning workshops, educational events, and volunteer sessions that help others learn gardening skills and apply sustainable practices at home or in their communities. Beyond gardening, DUGS offers students opportunities for leadership development, networking, and personal growth. Members can take on executive and volunteer roles, contribute ideas for society initiatives, and work alongside like-minded peers who care about sustainability and community-building. Through these activities, DUGS helps make Dalhousie a greener, more connected, and more environmentally conscious campus.
