Dalhousie Women in Politics (DWIP) aims to address the gender gap in politics at Dalhousie, in Nova Scotia and across Canada. The purpose and objectives of the Society are to empower and support women at Dalhousie who are studying, pursuing careers or interested in politics. Through education, networking and advocacy, DWIP aims to increase the representation of women in all political spaces, while fostering a supportive community for women engaging with politics in any capacity. In DWIP, we prioritize female leadership over participation. Women in politics will engage with our society through leadership events, mentorship programs, advocacy campaigns, and involvement in student and provincial government, as well as collaborations with other women’s organizations. Most importantly, we strive to provide women with pathways into distinguished political careers by offering leadership opportunities within our society, recognizing that strong leadership experience is invaluable for future job prospects. DWIP has partnered with the founders of the Political Science Department's Women in Politics Scholarship, Grace Evans and Sarah Dobson. Together with them, DWIP seeks to challenge the Old Boys’ Club that still dominates politics and to encourage more women to pursue leadership roles in both their education and careers. Change does not happen without action, and through DWIP, we believe we can make a meaningful impact together.
