Environmental Law Students' Society

The ELSS is a student-run society that focuses on environmental issues as they relate to the law. We engage with environmental law issues through advocacy and raising awareness. Additionally, we create opportunities for students who are interested in environmental law to network with one another and with leading practitioners in the field. We envision a world in which the environment is valued for its own sake and ecological diversity is protected and enhanced; all persons have access to clean and healthy environments; and the burdens of environmental harms and global climate change are shared equitably by those who are responsible. The ELSS recognizes that Indigenous peoples, persons of colour, and other historically marginalized and vulnerable groups are disproportionately burdened by environmental harms, and strives to conduct its activities through a social justice lens shaped by anti-oppressive, anti-racist, anti-colonialist, and anti-poverty principles.
