Let's Talk Science - Dalhousie

Science

Let's Talk Science is Canada's largest non-profit STEM outreach organization. We train volunteers to run STEM outreach in classrooms across the country, reaching millions of youth every year. At Let's Talk Science - Dalhousie, we train Dalhousie students to run hands-on STEM activities in classrooms for schools across Nova Scotia, reaching all major counties in the province. We also partner with local organizations in Halifax to deliver hands-on STEM activities with local and indigenous connections (e.g. Every One Every Day, Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity, Halifax Public Library, etc.). In the Dalhousie community, students gain extensive volunteer experience that can be used for resumes and applications for further education, careers, awards, and more. Our reputation in the province and university has grown immensely in the past two years, ensuring that our volunteers receive credible experience with our organization. This also provides volunteers with useful leadership and science communication skills that can be applied to their future endeavors. Student members are involved in our society as volunteers who go into classrooms to run the hands-on activities. They must attend a 2hr nationally standardized training session with us before starting to volunteer. Our society is important to both the Dalhousie community as well as the broader Halifax and Nova Scotia communities for its ability to deliver high quality free STEM activities for youth, engaging them in science literacy and interest while also supporting our post-secondary students as they prepare for careers involving science communication, education, and more.
