Society of Undergraduate Planners (SUP)

The Society of Undergraduate Planners is for all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Community Design (BCD) program. Students who are enrolled and have paid all the required fees are automatically members. Our society strives to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for planning students. As planners, we believe in the importance of building a sense of belonging and creating community. Through programming and outreach, we aim to connect students, helping to strengthen the social fabric of our program. We will organize social events and planning-related programming throughout the academic year. SUP is also in close contact with the faculty. We partner with the School of Planning on events and participate in monthly meetings with their leadership. In this way, we are also an avenue for students to express their questions, concerns, and feedback about the academic experience with the faculty. A main role of SUP is to communicate with the students and faculty, with the ultimate goal of improving the student experience. SUP plays an active role in decision-making within the faculty community, and we represent the voices of our members. BCD is a professional degree program. Therefore, it is important that students get exposed to the professional environment during their education. SUP serves as a connection between students and the broader planning community in Halifax and Nova Scotia. SUP invites students to meet professionals in the field so that they can better understand the profession and the opportunities available to them through a career in planning. We facilitate networking in an effort to help students find jobs and meet mentors. Our programming offers students a place to engage with planning outside of the classroom. Events and programs are designed to show students the importance of professional development and continuous learning.
