Sodales the Dalhousie University and University of Kings College Debating Society (Sodales)

Sodales, the Dalhousie University and University of King’s College Debating Society, exists to foster critical thinking, public speaking, and civic engagement through competitive and recreational debate. The society provides students with opportunities to develop skills in argumentation, rhetoric, research, and collaboration in an inclusive and supportive environment. Throughout regular meetings, training sessions, workshops, and tournaments, Sodales encourages students of all experience levels to build confidence in communication and engage thoughtfully with contemporary issues. The society also represents Dalhousie and King’s on the regional, national, and international debating circuit, contributing to the universities’ reputations within the broader academic and debating community. Members are actively involved in all aspects of the society, including debating competitively, organizing tournaments and events, mentoring novice debaters, and participating in democratic governance through elections, committees, and regular meetings.
